It’s a little something for everyone,
wrapped up neatly in one black gift
box~!
Black Box Black Blocks is a summer theatre and dance festival of new short works enjoying its third season in June 2011 in the University of Hawaii at Manoa Earle Ernst Lab Theatre. The festival features new works by local playwrights and choreographers that are unified by creative simplicity: the set is comprised of three black theatre cubes and nothing else, and the cubes are used creatively in each piece. The goal of the project is to showcase playwrights, choreographers, directors, actors, and dancers in our local community and to show that with the proper outlook, a simple set can be the most versatile and effective.
Please join us in supporting new local works! This year’s performances are at 8:00 P.M. on June 23, 24, 25, and at 2:00 P.M. for the matinee on June 26th. All performances are in the Earle Ernst Lab Theatre in the University of Hawaii at Manoa Kennedy Theatre building. Tickets are $5, and may be purchased at the door of the theatre from one hour before each performance.
I am more than a little pleased to announce our wonderful 2011 lineup! We will be producing four out of five submitted dances and 2 out of 15 submitted plays (and oh, is it a shame we couldn’t do them all!)
Now, without further ado:
Dances:
“Sideways” choreographed by Phoebe Hwang
“Imagine” choreographed by Phoebe Hwang
“The Throne” choreographed by Becky McGarvey
“Sacada” by Jackie Okimoto and Daniel Sakimura
Plays:
Director Maseeh Ganjali: To Do Battle by Rosina Favors
That Bench, Over There by Richard Ballon
Elisa this is the most wonderful website ever! I’m super excited to be involved so please give me as many jobs as you want so I can help out and you don’t have to do everything yourself.
How cool is this?!? I can’t wait to see the performances!
Best wishes to all on the launching of the Black Box Black Blocks inaugural season.
Go to your destiny! (And don’t break your nose, Elisa.)
