Wanted: New Short Plays

Deadline: April 10, 2011

Rules and Details:

1)Three black cubes will serve as the only set pieces, and they MUST be used in each submitted play.  They may be stacked or arranged in any safe and sane way (i.e. they may represent a pillar or a park bench).

2)Scripts may be submitted only if they have not yet received a public performance, and the text must be submitted by e-mail to blackboxblackblocks@gmail.com or on paper to the Kennedy Theatre office no later than April 10, 2011.  For e-mail, PDF and RTF format attachments are preferred.  Please do not submit a script you consider to be a work in progress.

3)SIMPLE IS BETTER.  Only limited sound equipment will be available, there will be one fixed lighting grid for all pieces, and props must be limited to those that the performers can easily carry on and off the stage unassisted.

4)There is no defined minimum time, but the maximum performance time (including set-up and clean-up) is 20 minutes.

5)Small casts are preferable, but if a large cast is necessary for a piece, it will still be considered.

6)Final selections will be made by a panel of directors.  You will be contacted and informed as to whether your play will be used in late May or early June.

7)Playwrights need not be in attendance for the festival, should they be off-island for the summer.

8 ) Re-submissions are welcome if a previously submitted play has not yet received a public performance in any venue.  Also, multiple submissions are welcome.

9) Plays by playwrights from any locale are warmly welcomed, but due to our mission statement, all plays not written by Hawaii locals will take slightly lower priority in our selection process.

Note: Playwrights may also participate in the festival as directors, dancers, or actors, but not for/in their own pieces.

Hi! I just emailed my submission of short plays to the EGDiehl@hawaii.edu and had asked for a confirmation that my submission had been received.

How do I go about confirming that it had been received?

    Thank you!

    Morning Elisa,

I sent you an e-mail from home late last night, and then thought, I could post the question!

    Please see below:

I know the 10 minute play is due today, but there is no cut-off time that I could find. Last year it was by 5 PM.

I was hoping this year it would be by the stroke of midnight, as many competitions usually are. (:

Could you please let me know what the cut-off time is, please? I am assuming at least 5:00 PM today, but hoping for at least 10:00 PM, given that we are in the thick of the semester…

    Thanks much,
    Siobhán

    Good Evening Elisa,

I imagine you must be having a busy day?

But just to say I sent you my BBBB 2010 script submission at 5:04PM.

Please let me know that you got it safely and that it is in the mix.

    Thanks much,
    Siobhán
